COVID-19 is impacting our community and upending our lives, and we know many of you are concerned for yourselves, your friends and loved ones.  We want you to know we are thinking of you and are so grateful for your support of HRC. Local Community Resources and Ways You Can Support!

Brave Space Alliance:  Donate to Brave Space Alliance’s Crisis Pantry to help LGBTQ people of color who are in need right now. They are serving 200+ people who do not have enough to eat, including some who have recently become jobless. Donations of canned goods, staples, water, baby food and diapers can be dropped off at their location in Hyde Park or you can make a cash donation online.  Here is more info on how to help and make a contribution.

Center on Halsted: Help support Center on Halsted’s Community programs that assist seniors, youth, and those seeking mental health or HIV related services.

Howard Brown: Donate to Howard Brown to help them continue to provide important healthcare and social services to the LGBTQ community.

AIDS Foundation of Chicago:  For those living with HIV and AIDS or who are using PrEP and experiencing financial crises due to the COVID-19 pandemic, please check out the HIV Resource Hub managed by The AIDS Foundation of Chicago in partnership with the Center on Halsted. Case managers and clients must contact the Chicago-area HIV Resource Coordination Hub at 1-844-482-4040 to access these funds.

SAGE Advocacy and Service for LGBTQ Elders:  SAGE has a hotline that provides information and peer-support 24/7 in English and Spanish. 1-877-360-LGBT(5428). SAGE has launched a new program to connect LGBT older people from across the country with others interested in sharing a friendly conversation. If you’d like to offer your time to call members of the community, or if you would like to receive a call from one of our volunteers, find your SAGE connection today!

Support Local LGBTQ Businesses:  LGBTQ-owned restaurants, retail stores and other businesses have been seriously impacted by Covid-19.   Consider helping them with an online purchase or gift card that you can use later but provides much needed cash now. To see a list of area LGBTQ-owned businesses consult the LGBT Chamber of Commerce of Illinois Directory.

City of Chicago Resources: The City of Chicago’s website lists the latest information about Covid-19 in our area and  resources and services that are available to those in need.

Chicago Area Covid-19 Response Fund: Donate to the Chicago Area Covid-19 Response Fund, a collaborative effort between The Chicago Community Trust and United Way of Metro Chicago and the City of Chicago to support those in need in the Chicago area during this difficult time.  Money raised will be distributed to relevant non-profit organizations across the region to help the most vulnerable. Equality Illinois has set up a special giving page to funnel donations to this fund from the local LGBTQ community. 100% of your contribution will go to the Covid-19 Response Fund.
